Chemicals in Ukraine

Classification of chemical reagents

Back in the days of the USSR, a classification system for chemical reagents by purity was adopted, which Ukraine still uses. All of them have symbols on the packaging and a strip with the corresponding color on the packaging.

1. Technical - (technical) composition of the main substance from 70 to 90%. You can buy technical chemical reagents packaged in small containers, with a light brown stripe on the package.
2. Pure - (p.) the content of the main substance is greater than 98%. On the packaging is indicated by a green stripe.
3. Pure for analysis - (analytical grade), such a chemical reagent contains 99% of the active substance. The packaging is marked with a blue stripe.
4. Chemically pure - (chemically pure) chemical reagent of the highest degree of purification (99.9%), odorless and colorless substance, sold in packages with a red stripe.
5. Spectrally pure - (sp.p.) reagent is intended for specialized purposes, even a millionth of impurities is unacceptable. The content of active substances is more than 99.9%.
6. Extra pure - (high purity) without any impurities, the maximum permitted billionth of a percent. You can buy a chemical reagent in a package with a yellow stripe.

Chemical reagents were used most often for medical, scientific purposes, but now they have found application in household chemicals. Chemicals for everyday life are freely available, so it is not difficult to buy chemicals, but it is important to remember the storage conditions. Remember that toxic and poisonous preparations should be stored in a cabinet with an exhaust hood, and those sensitive to light in dark dishes. The main thing is that everything should be hermetically sealed, weathering of the preparation is not allowed, but the room should be well ventilated and dry. Storage of drugs should be separate, because it is dangerous to store many substances in one place. You need to work with extreme caution and only with gloves, even if you use it with the help of special equipment. The cabinet with poisons must be locked and marked "dangerous" or "poisons". The place must be inaccessible to children and unauthorized persons.
